Reducing Drag!

How We reduced drag on our surface Vessel

  • As seen in the photo below, we smoothen the edges of the two hulls to reduce the skin friction of our surface vessel when traveling through the water.

  • In the picture, we have our two hulls that are shaped like arrows to have a more streamlined shape to cut through the water.

How do we know that our design reduces drag?

  • As shown on the left, our hull design frontal shape is similar to the cone shape.

  • But our hull design has a steeper slope and hence the drag coefficient will be much more less than the cone drag coefficient stated on the left which is 0.5.

  • We also smoothen the edges of the hull to reduce skin friction between the water and the hull of the surface vessel.
