Specification Report
We did our first version of the specification report in week 6 where we put in our ideas for our final product
Here are some questions we ask ourselves before we brainstorm for ideas.
After this we came out with some ideas that we can put into our surface vessel in the project.
1st Idea
We want to design a reel system that will bring the thermistor down to at least 3 meters below the water surface to measure the temperature of the water as this is the value normally oceanologists use to measure water surface temperature.
The drum containing the wires will be controlled by a motor that will reel the thermistor up or when deploying it down to the water.
A 3d printed holder will be supporting the drum slightly suspended in the air while the 3d printed holder will be secured to a floating platform or vehicle.
The picture on the left depicts what will happen when the thermistor is being deployed into the water, weights have to be added at the thermistor as it needs to act like an anchor, being able to sink to the bottom without getting carried away by the currents of the water.
The motor and the thermistor wires will be connected to a micro controller where it is controlled and where the temperature readings will go to. A display screen can be connected to the microcontroller to display the readings.
2nd idea
This is a design of an oil filtering mechanism.
How it works:
The oil skim rope will be placed into an area of water which is contaminated by oil. The rope will then absorb the oil and a bit of the water too. When ready, the pulley system will activate. The absorbed part of the rope will move in towards the body and will be squeezed by the holder and the pulley head. The squeezed oil will then drop down to the ramp and therefore flow into the container. The cycle will repeat itself until all the oil is absorbed and contained.
3rd idea
Design of a soil collector
How it works:
Wires serving as a hanger which hold the container, and the container containing a servo motor and a syringe inside.
When running the servo motor, the tip of the syringe will be open to collect the soil inside and the post hole digger will also turn as the holder of the syringe were being pulled up and the soil collected will be moving upwards due to the design of the hole digger so as to fill up the whole syringe.
